White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism

by Robin DiAngelo

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reading “White Fragility” can be a life-changing experience for any white person who is willing to be uncomfortable and face the truth. I am inspired and empowered by Robin DiAngelo’s insights and wisdom, and her authentic examination of her personal journey as a white social scientist. She also gives white people permission to laugh at ourselves, finally! I am planning to give this book to the white people in my life who imagine that they are exempt from racism–which is all of them. This is the rare “social science” book that can foster change on an individual level. The book holds a mirror up in which white readers can actually see ourselves. And it’s funny sometimes, to see how blind we can be. After reading this book, I was not the same. I could see how to have conversations with other white people about race. I could see how my calling out white fragility when I see it could make a difference for others. For my friends. I recommend that white people read this book, and buy a couple of spare copies for their friends and loved ones, so they will have someone to talk about it with.
